San Antonio

The Alamo

Larry & Sherry; the wooden doors are the entrance to the sanctuary.

Back of the Alamo - this is the exit to the sanctuary.

such an amazing historical building right in downtown San Antonio

Sherry samples the beer choices at one of the many bars on the riverwalk.

Just south of San Antonio there are several missions that are run by the National Park Service - but are still active churches. The buildings are amazing and they give you a sense of just how big the Alamo used to be.

Another mission - this one has the headquarters for the park.

The next few pictures are just cool shots of the mission that Scott took...

On April 5th we are leaving Austin and headed to Big Bend National Park - about a day's drive west of here. I will post some pictures of that adventure when we get back in the area!

Austin - Texas Independence Day

Texas State Capitol
On one of Scott's times home we got to do some sightseeing with some special visitors...
Independence Day Parade participants

These two are a teacher and her student from a local Austin school - she spent the last few months teaching about Texas history and then her and her students participated in the parade. She was explaining to us that the dress represents one of the Mexican States whose people were integral in settling Texas.

Independence Day in Texas is as big as July 4th...

My kind of horse...

Inside the Texas State Capitol.

Scott's brother Larry(in the cowboy hat), his wife Sherry, Bob (Sherry's brother) and Pat.

Eating barbeque at the Saltlick...mmm good!

Jason Bowland at Gruene Hall - three hour concert for $20!
I'm going to miss Texas country music...

Gruene Hall is an old dance hall south of Austin.
