December 3rd: Day 30

Ocala to Juniper Springs Campground in Ocala National Forest
32.3 miles in 4 hours, 4 minutes

We planned for this to be a nice, easy day. We should really know better by now... It felt like we climbed and reclimbed the highest peak in Florida. Elevation gain 1,247 ft, actual elevation 186 ft. Of course there was also the ever present (at least this trip) headwind at 15-20 mph - but we're getting used to that...

It was well worth the trouble. The campground was absolutely gorgeous. Most of it was built by the CCC in the 1930's and is still in great shape today. They are in the process of rebuilding the water wheel that used to generate all of the electricity for the park. The springs are a constant 68 degrees and there were several people swimming the day we were there. We went on a nature trail and found lots of "boils" - according to the signs the water is working its way down into caverns. We plan on coming back here with the RV and jeep to explore more of the area.
