November 11; Day 8

Happy Veterans Day!!

The ability to do this trip - the freedom to move around our Country at will and with total freedom is not lost on us today as we take a moment to thank those who have served our Country!

Hello Louisiana!
Kirbyville, TX to DeRidder, LA
45 miles in 5 hrs, 19 min riding

It was COLD this morning! We woke up to 31 degrees and frost on the ground. We knew it was coming so we decided to spend the night in a hotel. That made it a bit more pleasant getting going but it was still cold! Before any of you fellow Alaskans call us wimps just remember we can only pack so much winter gear on our bikes. :)

The first 6 miles of the ride were pretty miserable - the road had no shoulder and was heavily used by logging trucks. When there isn't a shoulder the riding is a bit more technical and of course it was that much more difficult because we couldn't feel our hands or feet...

After we got onto fm 190 in Bon Weir it was a great road. Of course after yesterday we were just thankful it wasn't windy!

Attached are a few pictures of today's ride. Scott is dishing up our dinner of dirty rice and biscuits so I'm going to wrap this up for the day.

I almost forgot! We got our first flat tire today...and then we got another one! Since our son in law, David mentioned flats we are dedicating the first one to him!

Thanks for following us!
