Antigua, Guatemala Week #4

Fuego is going off again! This is from the upper deck at Mario's. I guess from different angles you could see the lava flow.

Married on a glacier and also 27 years later we are near the base of a volcano. It's been quite the adventure filled life!

Still puffing the next day. The negative was if the wind was blowing towards town it got difficult to breathe and everything was covered in ash.

Just one of many chicken buses. They are all old school buses that have been repainted. The color scheme depends of the bus line. It's a very economical way to travel but can become very crowded (three people to a seat and then the aisle full of people).

Several lines up at the market - you have to know which section of the market to go to - and then start asking for the right bus. It can be a bit intimidating. Once on the bus you wait for the drivers helper to come and take the money - he usually does that once outside of town. It always amazed us how he would remember who had already paid and how much change he owed them.

Many things are transported on top of these buses - the ones in Antigua were rarely very full - we noticed on the way to Lake Atitlan there were some that were very full. I saw one helper finish tying something down up top while the driver started going - the helper then walked towards the front of the bus while on the roof (and the bus continued to move) and then swung down into the front entryway...

The cathedral at park central in Antigua.

Park Central

These guys...;-) so thankful we made such wonderful friends!

One of the original government buildings -
built in the 1500's I think?? One of the main buildings bordering Park Central.

Easily the nicest McDonalds we've ever been in. Scott got coffee there several times. We never did get in there to eat...

Another view of Park Central
