El Paredon Beach, Guatemala

When we arranged for our language school through Maximo Nivel we also paid for a weeklong "adventure tour." As someone who over plans everything we figured it was good to just go with it...El Paredon, Guatemala was an adventure in it's own way...

The beach was mostly empty the majority of the time we were there. It was kind of like walking the beaches or Oregon but without people - and of course it was warm...

Scott came up with the best description for the hostel we stayed in - "a half way house for wanna be surfers." We met some great people, some interesting people and a couple of jerks. We had our own room - although it was right under the bar that was very active until around 2am. In true hostel style we ate all of our dinners together - that in itself was an adventure!

The food was awesome - really enjoyed that - although I was amazed at how much smoking goes on right where people were eating. It was mostly the Australians that were there - along with a few Europeans (who smoked).

I think Scott would have enjoyed these views more - except he kept saying "they are younger than my kids!"

We really enjoyed walking the beach - around sunset more folks came out to play - it was fun to watch the surfers and the kids playing in the water.

The sunsets were amazing - we had a hard time picking out our favorites...

View from the bar deck...

Coolest shower ever...

Lots of sugar cane and bananas being grown between Antigua and the coast. Passed lots of trucks full of cane.

El Paredon - the village is very small with only a few stores.

This house was never finished - but someone is living in a shack in the back yard.

This crab looked translucent

Vultures drying their wings

Footprints in the sand...

The coolest boat swing ever - I want one - Scott says I have to find a boat first (and of course we need a house first).
